Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy attacked in Enugwu Ukwu

  

The senator was irritated and disturbed over the event after narrowly avoiding death.

Awka- When Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents the Anambra South senatorial zone, was ambushed on Sunday at Enugwu Ukwu in the state's Njikoka local government area, three police escorts in his convoy were presumed dead.

Under the condition of anonymity, a highly placed source informed Vanguard that the senator was irritated and disturbed over the event after narrowly avoiding death.

According to a witness, the senator was hurt during the incident, which some people claimed was an attempt at assassinating the senator from the Young People’s Party (YPP).

An eyewitness said: “Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy came under attack in Enugwu Ukwu this evening. He was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy. Some of his aides were killed, including some police officers.

“The senator managed to escape as his car was riddled with bullets.

“I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did”.

The state police command has responded to the Enugwu Ukwu incident in the meantime. According to a statement from the state police's public relations officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga:

“The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Echeng Echeng has led operatives to the scene where sporadical shootings took place in Enugwu ukwu. 

“Though the details of the incident is still sketchy, operatives are on ground there as operations is going on and the situation is being monitored.

“Further details shall be communicated please “.
